The third event of this year’s Miler Club Championship, the 3k Handicap, took place on 7 March, with a field of 16 competing on the track at AOP.

Outright winner Rob Italia (11.08) may have benefited from a generous handicap, but it was still a great effort over a longer distance by someone who actually got a medal in the 100m at the recent VIC Masters Championships. On that note, good luck to him and Katie at the World Masters Indoors in Poland at the end of the month.

The next two finishers were both backmarkers who stormed through to record the fastest times of the day. Nick ‘Fitter’ Turner was second (10.05), with Bruce Arthur (10.13) three seconds behind. The handicapper’s award (thank you again, Michael) goes to Thai Phan in fifth place, who ran exactly his predicted time.

The next event on the calendar is the legendary 5Ms at the tan on Sunday 26th March.
