Nicole Joseph – Deleted

Nickname: NJ (LG and/or Stods gave me this one from my Strava name) or B3 (Chez – I think this one is your fault!!)
Workplace: Home (3 children under 6 + a bit of freelance writing. Legal qualification not getting a workout these days)
PB’s: 5km 18.35; 10km: 37.35; Half-marathon 1.26; Marathon 3.18
Best Running Experience: Way too many to write down but most recently the Sri Chimnoy 10km and Run4theKids earlier this year. Both runs almost magical no doubt in part because of the great Miler energy at both events.
Worst Running Experience: NY marathon in 2009 (pre-Milers). Major toilet issues and planter fasciitis. Felt awful from 4 miles in, thought about stopping many times, walked a bit and almost cried. Scurried back to my hotel at the end of the race swearing I’d never do another marathon but found myself at the hotel computer that night searching for….another marathon.
Racing Shoes: As of last week, ASICS DS-Racer.
Years Running: 19
Why Do You Run: mental health, fun, socialising, goal setting, because it feels good and everything is better when I’m running
Favourite Training Session: Mona Fartlek
Hobbies: writing, reading, running, hanging out with family and friends, volunteering with the Greens and volunteering at my children’s school and kinder, unsuccessfully avoiding places like indoor play centres
Most Important Thing To Me: Family
Biggest Dislike: cleaning my car, ironing and putting doonas inside their doona covers
Favourite Movie: Not sure. But my favourite book is A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara.
Favourite Music: you would not talk to me if I told you what I really listen to so to be somewhat cool or at least not the biggest dork around, I’m going to say Vance Joy.
Favourite Food: chocolate especially unsophisticated stuff like Cadbury chocolate with Smarties inside it.
Favourite Drink: peanut butter smoothie from Las Chicas on Carlisle Street (it’s not on the menu anymore but you can still ask for it), Madame Flavour choc mint tea
Favourite Event: Too many to name. parkrun is pretty special. It’s the place I met Georgina Wiley who got me back into running post-children and who introduced me to the Milers. parkrun is also the place I met LG, Nick Paine, Selim and many other Milers. parkrun is where I ran my 5km PB. Now my children are enjoying parkrun.
Dream Occupation: Being the female version of Jonathan Franzen (author)
Most admired athlete: Lisa Weightman and Sinead Diver (both mothers)
Little known fact about me: I’ve had cosmetic surgery to enhance my….feet (I had surgery on my little toe. Possibly unnecessary (and vain) but I did it in the name of running).

Three Things You Want To Do Before You Die: sub 3 hour marathon, have fun, have more fun –

“The obsession with running is really an obsession with the potential for more and more life.” George Sheehan
